Fowler & Co collaborated with Josephine Barbarino and Architeam on the interior of the striking lakeside opera house Das Festspielhaus Füssen in Bavaria. Ben's elegant designs can be admired throughout the expansive interior: from the art nouveau-inspired door handles and ballustrades to the auditorium seating. Above is Ben's meticulously hand-drawn rendering of the building's entire cross section.
The auditorium seating integrates the same romantic visual elements as the door handles and ballustrades. The motifs are inspired by 'the Swan King' Ludwig II, subject of the theatre's debut performance, the world premiere of Franz Hummel's biographical musical.
The geometric design of the laser cut wood panelling in the lounge bar is an exact replica in walnut of a key theatrical set from the Ludvig II opera.
The ornate cast aluminium balustrades and swan motif door handles appear throughout the theatre and on the stage itself, drawing together different spaces and creating a flow through the building.
The most popular of the theatre's five restaurants is the beer garden we brought to Bavaria. The sturdy beech tables and benches are hardworking, comfortable and roomy, helping to create a convivial atmosphere.
Chequerboard integrated shelving creates a seamless aesthetic and plentiful storage for a functional bar serving area.
